I teach the staves to Muli the hard way. He doesn’t know I’m pulling my strikes a little bit, but I make sure he feels each hit. He’s not happy at all, but he’s also not quitting. I finally have to call it when I split his lip.

Even then, he comes at me one last time, but he’s tired. I knock his wind out with a gut hit.

“You enjoying this?” he manages to wheeze out.

“More than you,” I answer. “But, considering your determination, that might change in the future.”
