Mission 2 Prelude

It’s an hour before the beginning of the mission. The athletes are gathered in the staging area, fidgeting, muttering, and checking their suit diagnostics for the tenth time. I sense a lot of apprehension in the air. The group is nervous. It’s clear they’re over-thinking things ahead of the mission.

My attention is taken by an argument between Pavov and Mary Beth near the rear exit.

It’s not a loud argument, but it is animated, as Pavov’s hands wave about, emphasizing each word. Mary Beth responds with shakes of her head and dismissive laughter.

Minutes pass. The argument doesn’t seem to be calming down. Other athletes have turned their heads to watch.

Choose:

1. Do nothing. It’s up to them to work it out.

2. Approach them and intervene. The others shouldn’t be distracted from their thoughts.

3. It’s their business, but it is a distraction. Yell out, “Keep down the noise!”
