Mission Prelude 2/2

Ezebel approaches me after the pre-staging briefing. “Do you have a moment?”

“Of course.”

Ezebel turns to gesture at Oreilli. He hurries over.

Ezebel turns back to me. “May we all talk privately?”

I’m a bit surprised by this, because Ezebel and Oreilli are not friends. “Sure.”

Ezebel leads us to a blind corner in a doorway and turns to me. “I overheard something last night. I was climbing the silo ladder in the elevator tower.”

“Why were you doing that?” I ask.

“I wanted a different workout, and it’s a good three hundred feet of climb.”

“Okay.” I know that ladder. Affixed steel rungs up along a smooth metal silo wall. That ladder has no protective collar. One mistake and down, down, down. But it’s sturdy and the rungs are coated with a high-grip surface. And I am dealing with athletes.

Ezebel continues. “Well, the elevators are behind the ladder’s wall. While I was climbing, I could overhear the occupants when the elevator stopped right at my position.” She glances at Oreilli.

He urges her to continue.

She sighs. “I overheard two Assembly women talking...”

Choose:

1. I stop her right there. I tell her it’s critical that she does the ethical thing and not repeat confidential Assembly matters. I explain to her that the team is intended to be one of the greatest ever formed, and we all are held to the high standard. Furthermore, the ladder is not properly safe and is off-limits for a reason. They are to stay out of it.

2. I want to hear what she overheard.
